This unit, New Meaning, is all about creating new things.
As an artist, photographer or designer you can create something from something else (tracing images with the pen tool, clipping masks, etc) or something from nothing.
Target: I feel confident creating designs in Adobe Illustrator.
Yesterday you built a shape/icon with the pen tool. Today we are constructing illustrations using shapes in Illustrator.
Follow along! Everything we are making with these tools were used to make the basic illustrations in Google Santa Tracker.

Yesterday we went over how to create your Part 3 Monogram page which needs to be in your portfolio. You need one page for a B for your portfolio check.
Remember it needs: Your final logo in 3 variations (large, small, different effects) An intentional color palette Your full name A professional arrangement A background For an A, do another final page using a different logo. For an A+, after your additional page, make a cover page for your portfolio. Use the Web Minimum preset size (1024 x 768) Must include your full name, your monogram in some way and the name of the class (Visual Art & Technology or VAT). Use an intentional palette and design the layout and background as best you can. Remember to File/Export (I would do PNG and Use Artboards) all your designs to place as images in your Slides portfolio.
This week we are going to finish up Monograms and move on to our last project.
To finish Monograms you need to create your Final Comp Page
This needs to have:
Your final logo in 3 variations (large, small, different effects)
An intentional color palette
Your full name
A professional arrangement
A background
This needs to be in your portfolio as your Monogram Part 3 page.
Looking for an A?
Create a different layout/color scheme with a different logo
Looking for an A+?
Create a portfolio cover using your logo in some way
Use the Web Minimum preset size (1024 x 768)
Must include your full name and the name of the class (Visual Art & Technology or VAT)
Today we need to make sure you have had your Monograms looked at by others in class and they have chosen which of yours they feel is your strongest logo.
Guss class periods... 2 3 4 9
Make sure you count your votes and tell me about it in your portfolio!!
You should make sure your portfolio is up to date LIKE MINE
Add in your Monogram Step 2
*must have color versions
*must have voting data and your decision for Step 3
If you are ready you can start Step 3
HOW TO:
Create a new Illustrator file, letter size document (8.5x11") that is tall or wide
Copy over all your chosen final logo types
Place in or choose a color palette (use adobe color, design seeds or an image)
Adjust sizes of monograms and apply colors to different monograms.
Create a background rectangle and fill with color and or patterns.
Add your full name.
Today's Target: I can analyze feedback and opinion on my logo to help inform my decision for my final personal monogram logo.

Why does opinion matter?
Remember, though this design is for you, public opinion always comes with new design.
And sometimes, it's not good.
Please add the Jpg of your Monogram Part 2 in the slideshow for your class 2 3 4 9
Steps: 1. Start in Slides Move to the slide AFTER yours. 2. Look Add a comment for each slide of someone else's (moving back to the top) until you get back to yours. 3. Vote In your comment, ONLY list the number of the design you think is the most effective.
4. Tally On your step 2 page, add a text box that lists the amount of votes each design received.
Step Two must have:
3-4 of your thumbnail ideas in black/white/gray
Each design has a color version
5. Insert your finished Step 2 in your Portfolio. Add a text box which explains which logo you are going to move forward with. Are you going with or against Popular Opinion?

3 Step Process
1: Thumbnails- LOTS of ideas, good, bad and ugly (3-5 for each principle)
2: Roughs- take 3-4 of your best ideas and refine, add color for peer feedback
3: Comp- 1 logo shown in various ways in a professional format/layout
Step One:
Build a letter size doc in Illustrator and name it "Monograms step 1".
We will divide the paper into quarters and go over ways to create logos using
Contrast
Alignment
Repetition
Proximity
