Thursday November 21 : Finish Part 1

Today is your last chance to work on thumbnail ideas for your Monogram.
MINIMUM goal is 12 different ideas.
BETTER is to have more than 16.

Here is a page of ideas from all my demos last semester.

After this, you start a new document (letter size, called Monogram Part 2).
Copy over your favorite 3 or 4 monograms.
Add a number next to each.

Save it to your Google Drive as both an Illustrator file and a JPG.
We will be sharing your ideas for feedback on MONDAY.

Wednesday November 20 : Designing your monogram PART ONE ROUGHS

Let's start creating your own logo!

Creating your logo is a process. We begin with lots of little ideas using the CARP Principles as a guide.

Thinking: Create many design choices before choosing your best option.

Identity: Personal Identity Logos
3 Step Process
1: Thumbnails- LOTS of ideas, good, bad and ugly (3-5 for each principle)

2: Roughs- take 3-4 of your best ideas and refine, add color for peer feedback

3: Comp- 1 logo shown in various ways in a professional format/layout

Step One:

Build a letter size doc in Illustrator and name it "Monograms step 1".
We will divide the paper into quarters and go over ways to create logos using
Contrast
Alignment
Repetition
Proximity

Follow along with me for techniques to try in each category.

Friday April 12 : Photo shoot and Step 2

Time to move on with your logos- Step 2 preparation.

To make it:

Create a new file in Illustrator. Title it Step 2 Monograms

Copy/paste over 3 or 4 of your fave logos from Step 1 Thumbnails.

Add numbers next to each.

Save as an Illustrator file.

Save as a JPG.

Put both in your Google Drive VAT folder for now...

Design in Photography- think about taking pictures...

This time: your goal is to gather (new or old) images that capture the Elements of Art

LINE   SHAPE   COLOR   TEXTURE 

and think about creating the Principles of Art

EMPHASIS       BALANCE     REPETITION       PROPORTION/SCALE

Examples of images finding the Es and Ps

*Find examples for your NOTES/ RESEARCH slides.

You need to take/find at least TWO images for each of the above.

Wednesday April 10: Finishing designing your thumbnails/ Step One

Have you taken the district survey yet?

Today is a studio day to finish ideas for Step 1...
I will show you some more interesting things to try in Repetition and Proximity.

Target: I honestly experiment with many design choices before choosing my best option.

12 ideas is BARE minimum. Preferred is 20.

Your goal is to play with 
ALIGNMENT- align your letters top, bottom, left or right or center. Play with fonts
CONTRAST- Utilize strong black and white shapes 
PROXIMITY- can you make the letters touch to create a new shape? Can you leave parts open?
REPETITION- how can you produce repeating angles or shapes?

TARGET: I honestly research examples of graphic design and photography for inspiration.

In your NOTES, find examples of the CARP principles shown in the slideshow above.
Research "personal identity logos"  and "monogram logos". Find samples of each CARP principle (Contrast, Alignment, Repetition, Proximity).

Search for your own intials- what do you find?
