Nobody Beats The Drum - Grindin' from Nobody Beats The Drum on Vimeo.

A Short History of the GIF from The Academy on Vimeo.

THIS WEEK... let's make things move.
1. Make sure you are done with photo editing, word its and mash its. See my portfolio
2. Animate and create a GIF- here's how to do that

Want to see what other students have made? Check them out HERE!

EVERYONE's TARGET: I feel confident using adobe programs and online tools to make digital art.

Monday February 27 : Finishing up Mash It

Learning Targets
My work is stronger because I use the elements and principles of art/design.

Last week we spent a couple of days on the Mash It project. You need to put TWO in your portfolio.

Make sure they have UNITY (the word and picture look like they belong together).

Positive space (word is ON the object)

Negative (word is in the empty space)

When you save them, lets talk about another way to save this image as high res- File/Export.

Let's check on your portfolio and make sure we are up to date.

Friday February 24 : Make the Mash It more

My work is stronger because I use the elements and principles of art/design.
(I can create a strong COMPOSITION using EMPHASIS and UNITY.)
My work communicates an idea to an audience because I have made good choices with the elements and principles.
(I can communicate and idea to an audience through photography and design.

Continue to work on Mash It today... Let's do more things.
Fairly easy

Medium challenge (transform)

More challenge (divide)

Even more challenging (lots of dividing and transforming)

Looks like it's hard but not too much
(Clipping Mask, Type on a Path)

Thursday February 23 : Word it to Shoot it and on to MASH IT (typography on photography)

Today here are your priorities:
1. Turn in Contact Sheet (due today for Skyward check or zero)
2. Edit at least THREE images and put Before/Afters in your Portfolio
3. Begin to follow me to create the Mash It

Moving on to Mash it!!
My work is stronger because I use the elements and principles of art/design.
(I can create a strong COMPOSITION using EMPHASIS and UNITY.)
My work communicates an idea to an audience because I have made good choices with the elements and principles.
(I can communicate and idea to an audience through photography and design.

Your image should be edited to better convey the meaning of the word, and have a space (positive or negative) for your word. You should integrate the word into the image to create UNITY.

Positive space (word is ON the object)

Negative (word is in the empty space)

How do you do it?
  1. Remember- photo editing is done in PicMonkey or BeFunky and typography/paths are done in ILLUSTRATOR.  Edit your photograph first and save it to your H drive.
  2. Create a new 4x6" document in Adobe Illustrator.
  3. File/Place your edited photo and hit the Embed button.
  4. You can design directly into the photo OR...
  5. File/Open your Word it on a new file tab.
  6. Select the letters of your word it to copy over to your photography. Ctrl C to copy.
  7. On your photo file tab, Ctrl V to paste.
  8. You may want to right click/ungroup your letters or Ctrl G to group objects as you work.
  9. Use the BLACK ARROW (Selection Tool) to change size, change colors and move letters. Don’t forget to double click to go to Isolation mode if you need to..
  10. Use the Eyedropper tool to choose colors from your photo to keep the color scheme harmonious.
  11. Concentrate on a strong COMPOSITION and creating EMPHASIS and UNITY in your final design.

Your goal is to further enhance the meaning of your Word.

Wednesday February 22 : Contact Sheets and Edits

Goal #1: Complete this survey.

Goal #2: Look at your images and choose your BEST.
How do you know? Which ones do you like the best? Which look the most interesting? Which convey your word best? Ask a neighbor!
It probably needs a little adjusting so then you need to edit.

Goal #4: Edit at least three pictures to put a Before/After in your portfolio. Edit for CONTRAST, COLOR and/or COMPOSITION (cropping).

or

PicMonkey is good for uploading images from your H Drive and saving back to it.
BeFunky is good for opening from Drive and saving back to Drive.

Open an image in Drive and choose Open With. Connect to More Apps if you don't see Befunky. When you select BeFunky, it should open directly into the app.

Make sure you save the edited image as a new file name!! Like "Jump edit".

Tuesday February 21 : Midterm and Moving on

Welcome back after our mini Spring Break!

Things today:
1. Midterm Check... check Skyward.
A midterm grade of A means you had all required and two extra
A midterm grade of B means you had all required
A midterm grade of  C means you missed something. Check the Comments in your portfolio for what.

What does that mean?
To earn above a C at quarter (last week of March) you MUST complete all required work- even late stuff.
To earn a B at quarter you need all required so far and that assigned before quarter.
To earn an A at quarter you need all required and extras... usually about five. You can include the extras you have so far.
How do you get an A+? Try extras for everything!!

2. How are we doing with Word Its? Let's check and add to your portfolio
HERE's mine

3. Shoot it. SOME of you still don't have pictures. That makes me feel like this.

4. Let's talk Editing pictures. Download the BeFunky app in Google Apps.

Thursday February 2 : Radial Unity/Vectors/Color

Today's Targets:
I honestly think about the elements and principles of art before/while I am making my art.
I feel confident using adobe programs and online tools to make digital art.

Radial Unity Project
Part 1- Create a radial design in Photoshop.
Part 2- Vectorize your Radial design in Illustrator.
Part 3- Use purposeful color to create color schemes in your design

Purposeful Exploration: Radial design // Unity // Color Schemes  in our Notes
We will start by researching COLOR schemes in images online. Use the links below on the left to find resources online to help you discover color schemes and put examples of each into your notes.

  1. Monochromatic ( one color, lights & darks, like red, maroon & pink)
  2. Complementary (opposites on CW, like blue & orange)
  3. Analogous (similar colors, next to each other on CW, like green, yellow green and yellow)
  4. Triad (3 in a triangle on CW, like red, yellow, blue )
  5. High Contrast (opposites in any way, lights & darks, extreme differences.
  6. Grayscale  (blacks, whites, grays only)

Eventually, you will create radial designs in Illustrator using each of these color schemes.
